Lesson Objectives:

• Recognize and define some of the scientific language related to the balance scale

• Describe the building of a balance scale

• Describe weight and differences in weight between objects

• Describe how to determine a difference in weight between objects using a scale

• Manage their impulsivity.

• Practice the use of precise and clear communication skills.

Materials Needed:

• linking cubes

• various classroom materials to weigh

• To make balance scale:

  • hangers

  • clear (ish) plastic cups

  • pipe cleaners in different colors

    OR if you would prefer to purchase instead of make scales

  • Set of 4 Balance Scales
